Tuesday,  November 13, 2007 –  The Government of Saint Lucia has agreed to extend the concessions granted on Christmas barrels by one month.  The decision was taken on Thursday November 8th, 2007 by the Cabinet of Ministers to be granted under the following conditions:-

1.       Waiver of Import Duty and Consumption Tax on unsolicited personal items, food, clothing and toys contained in barrels imported between November 15th 2007 to January 31st, 2008.  Electronic items are explicitly excluded.

2.       The number of barrels that qualify for the concession would be limited to two (2) per household;

3.       There is an upper limit of EC$1,500.00 per barrel on the value of items qualifying for the concessions;

4.       The items identified in one (1) above must be for personal use only, and not for commercial use; and

5.       The usual penalties, fines, etc. would be applied if the goods are used for commercial purposes.

The public is also advised that all transactions as regard receiving and clearing of barrels will be held in the newly configured shed 6A and 6B, which has all attendant public amenities.

Goods will be cleared without customers having to leave the shed, as they will be able to pay SLASPA charges and Customs Duties in the same shed and should a broker be needed one will be available at the shed.

The Government of Saint Lucia would like to take this opportunity to wish all members of the public a blessed Christmas Season.
