Thursday, May 17, 2007 – Prime Minister Dr. the Right Honourable Keith Mitchell has called on Grenadians and other Caribbean nationals to continue praying for Prime Minister Sir John Compton of Saint Lucia who is now under medical supervision. Prime Minister Mitchell noted that Sir John - a “visionary leader” has dedicated his life to improving the lives of Saint Lucians and all Caribbean nationals.

Dr. Mitchell stated that he and many other Caribbean leaders had sought advice from Sir John and said that the words of wisdom provided by the Saint Lucian leader were invaluable.

“I call on all Caribbean people to remember Sir John in their prayers, let us hope that he will make a full recovery and continue to serve the people of Saint Lucia. We as leaders look forward to continuing to work with Sir John and I am sure that Sir John while putting his health as top priority is looking forward to being in his beloved Saint Lucia very soon.”

Meanwhile, Chairman of the OECS Authority, Honourable Baldwin Spencer, Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda has called all residents not just Saint Lucians but the entire OECS to ask the Almighty to intercede for the speedy recovery of the Saint Lucian leader.

In applauding the achievements of Sir John, the Antiguan prime minister said “Sir John has worked tirelessly towards strengthening our integration movement in the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States. It was only some three months ago, that I as Chairman of the OECS Authority paid a courtesy call on Sir John in Castries where we discussed his continued involvement in our dynamic regional integration machinery.”

At this time of illness Mr. Spencer extends his prayers to Sir. John's wife and family, his Cabinet of Ministers and the people of Saint Lucia as the entire region await further developments. Finally Mr. Spencer called on the entire Caribbean region to remember our brothers and sisters who are encountering any form of impediment and that with God's blessings they too will overcome their challenges.
