Tuesday,  March 20, 2007 –   The Ministry of Education and Culture has commended  the Eastern Caribbean Financial  Holding Company -  ECFH  for  continuing to include education  in its  corporate social responsibility programme.

Last week the financial institution presented a cheque of ten thousand dollars to the Ministry  to assist  the   National  Enrichment  Learning Unit 's Adult Literacy Programme.

Group Managing Director Mr. Robert Norstrom  said  the bank is happy to be associated with this educational programme which will soon benefit 90 more participants from the communities of Anse La Raye, Banse La Grace and Fond St. Jacques.

“Over the past 12 years  this programme  has improved the lives of a number of young people in Anse La Raye and with its expansion into Millet in 2006, a larger number of students from the west coast of Saint Lucia stand to benefit from that programme as well. We have had discussions with administrators at both NELP and the People's Workshop in terms of facilitating close collaboration  between them to expand and improve their respective programmes.”

Minister in the Ministry of Education and Culture Senator the Honourable Gaspard Charlemagne noted the importance of such corporate support towards national development efforts.

“Over years banks and other corporate citizens have demonstrated great dynamism. This is why your investment in education initiatives especially in this literacy project  by the National Enrichment Learning Unit  is considered  the best strategy to promote national development.”

The programme will include sessions that will enable  adult literacy participants to better understand the financial sector.
