Monday, June 11, 2007 – Another local hotel has come out in support of
the National Community Foundation's (NCF ) “Dollar a night initiative.”
The Coco Palm became the fourth hotel to take on the Dollar a night programme,
following its initiation at the Bay Gardens, Bay Gardens Inn and the newly
opened Bay Gardens Beach Resort.
“There are visitors who come down to our various territories and they want to
give but they are not sure who to give. When you have something like this , then
they know it will be used as it is supposed to be used. We at the NCF we pride
ourselves in being transparent and accountable and we do have our auditors from
Price Waterhouse Coopers and they audit us every year.” said the outgoing
Executive Director of the National Community Foundation Jacintha Annius Lee.
Under the dollar a night initiative consenting guests donate one US dollar for
every night of their stay. The funds then go towards education and health care
for young Saint Lucians.
The NCF has disbursed a sum of eight hundred thousand dollars towards the
education of young people since 2002 and approximately two million dollars in
all their focus areas.
