Tuesday, June 19, 2007 – Junior members of the Helen Folk Dancers have
yielded to the call for the youth to take greater interest in the well being of
the island's aged citizens. The group paid a visit to the Marian Home, bringing
along tokens and providing entertainment in the form they love best - dance.
Speaking on behalf of members of the Board of Directors of the Marian Home, Ruth
Theobalds, said the residents are always elated about such visits and encouraged
the young people to continue to demonstrate love and concern for the elderly.
According to Mrs. Theobalds, “They look forward to you because they love you and
they love to see you dance and they love to see the youth among them. The youth
among them doing what they love to do makes them feel young again.”
The Helen Folk Dancers has been around for the past 16 years and Co-ordinator
Theresa Hall said the group's juniors are always taken to the various Homes to
provide the residents with something different from what other visitors are
accustomed to providing.
“Lots of people come they sing they pray but we are looking at something
different. Because the elderly are human being just like us and many times they
need a little bit of entertainment in their lives,” Mrs. Hall added.
The group was joined on the Marian Home visit by a few musical artistes among
them Elra Emay, and Lady Leen.
