Thursday, June 28, 2007 – The Cultural Development Foundation CDF is
calling on parents and guardians to seize an opportunity to get students better
acquainted with the island's cultural forms over the summer holidays.
Kentilia Louis Senior Cultural Officer for Training and Development says the CDF
which hosts annual summer programmes for some five years now, promises the
workshops will be very educational, practical and lively as participants will be
taken on a cultural journey under the theme “Embracing We Culture.”
“What we've done this year is that we are focusing on the different art forms
and making it more of a cultural summer programme so we will have music, dance,
arts and craft and drama, and we will be focusing on the traditional art forms,
mainly solo, traditional music and the flower festival.”
The CDF's decentralised approach to implementing the programmes has resulted in
the involvement of five communities namely: Laborie, Babbonneau, Dennery, Micoud
along with the capital Castries.
“And we are looking at the next few years to add a couple more communities to
that list. The summer arts programme is for children between five to 16, and in
Laborie and Dennery and here at the Cultural Development Foundation.”
Workshops run for a maximum of three weeks and will conclude with productions
reflecting what the students have learnt about the art forms. For more
information please contact the CDF at (758) 453- 7385/ 453-2459/452-1859.
