Friday, July 27, 2007 - Consumers of Baron Purified Water can rest assured that this product’s quality and safety still conform to national standards. This assurance was given officially on Thursday, July 26 when Baron Foods and the Saint Lucia Bureau of Standards signed a licence agreement for the company’s continued use of the Saint Lucia Standard Mark. Baron Purified Water has carried the Standard Mark since 2005. The signing took place at the Bureau’s offices.
At the signing, Managing Director of Baron Foods, Mr. Ronald Ramjattan said that quality and safety have always been at the top of his company’s agenda and the Standard Mark is a vital means of ensuring this. Significantly, Mr. Ramjattan also alluded to the economic benefits of carrying the Standard Mark when he pointed out that during Cricket World Cup 2007 sales of Baron Purified Water had risen significantly since tourists opted for the certified brand of bottled water. He indicated that his company intends to have other Baron Foods products carry the Standard Mark and he appealed to the Bureau to offer additional technical support in this regard. Mr. Ramjattan expressed his company’s pride at being reissued with the Standard Mark and said that Baron Foods was committed to continuing its work with the Bureau.
The Bureau’s Director, Dr. Darius Gabriel, in his remarks, stated that Baron Foods could serve as a “flagship for the Standard Mark” thereby encouraging other companies to carry the Standard Mark in their own drive towards quality and safety. Echoing the Director’s comments, Chairman of the Standards Council, Dr. Keith St. Aimee, said that Baron Foods should be seen as a champion for the Saint Lucia Standard Mark and for its efforts to promote quality and safety in industry.
The Saint Lucia Standard Mark signifies quality and safety and is granted by the Bureau of Standards under a national product certification scheme. This scheme assures consumers and purchasers that products and services meet national standards and specifications consistently. The scheme’s aim is to improve the quality and competitiveness of the products and services offered in Saint Lucia.
