Fans flock to the ICC CWC 2007 Official Ticket Centre in Saint Lucia earlier today as Phase 3 of Public Ticketing for the ICC Cricket World Cup began

Caribbean people are definitely coming to the party!”

As the first day of Phase 3 of Public Ticketing for ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 drew to a close across the Host Venues today, this was the pronouncement from ICC CWC WI 2007 Inc. Commercial Director, Stephen Price.

Information from the nine countries in which Official Ticket Centres are located – and in which ICC CWC 2007 matches will be played – has indicated a robust turn-out from the regional public; many of whom had previously signalled that they would wait until now to make their purchases.

“Reports from Ticket Centres show heavy foot traffic – a strong indication that regional fans have indeed been waiting for this phase to buy match tickets.

“This is what we anticipated and CWC is encouraged to see Caribbean people supporting the Cricket World Cup which will be held in our backyards. We want them to come out and enjoy themselves and we are pleased that it looks like they will be out in their numbers for this once-in-a-lifetime experience,” stated Price.

Fans were so eager to get their hands on tickets that they queued outside Ticket Centres in Jamaica, Guyana and Saint Lucia long before the doors opened.

Marketing & Communications Manager of the Trinidad & Tobago Local Organising Committee (LOC), Penny Commissiong-Chow, reported a massive response to Phase 3.

“It has been overwhelming. All three Ticket Centres, including the one in Tobago, have done brisk trade throughout the day, which is excellent,” she stated.

Giving details for certain fixtures, she disclosed that tickets for the India-Sri Lanka clash are now only available in one stand as well as for half of the Party Stand. The Pakistan-South Africa Warm-up game at University of the West Indies (UWI) St. Augustine “is also selling very well”.

“Late in the day, we also saw a lot of requests coming in for Bangladesh matches. Overall, 80 per cent of our sales today were for CWC matches being held in Trinidad & Tobago,” said Commissiong-Chow, adding that the long lines are expected to continue through to weekend.

Meanwhile, CWC Assistant Project Officer – Ticketing, Carla Henry-Baker, indicated there was “steady traffic throughout the day” at the Ticket Centre in Jamaica; with the opening tournament match – West Indies versus Pakistan – being in greatest demand. Many also wanted Semi-Final tickets and waited patiently to secure them.

“People were very excited that they can get their tickets in hand at the same time that they pay. That’s a huge drawing card for the public,” noted Henry-Baker.

Due to a system configuration issue, the on-the-spot printing of tickets did not take place at some Ticket Centres. This situation was rectified in Barbados, Grenada, Jamaica, Saint Lucia, St. Vincent & the Grenadines and Trinidad & Tobago.

“ICC Cricket World Cup West Indies 2007 Inc. is working assiduously to resolve the outstanding issues today so that everything will be operational tomorrow,” said Price.

However, he noted that all customers who visited Ticket Centres today were able to make a purchase, be assigned a seat and to receive printed confirmation of their seat, row and block number. Those in the countries with printing problems were asked to return to the Ticket Centres to collect their tickets.

“We have had contingencies in place which have allowed us to deal with these situations and to overcome such challenges. CWC would like to thank the Caribbean public for its patience today as they waited in long lines as a result of the demand for tickets,” continued Price.
