Monday,  December 10, 2007 –    The Cultural Development Foundation “CDF”  is preparing to stage this year’s “Festival of Light and Festival of Carols.”    The Festival of Carols is to be staged on Sunday 9th December at the Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception under the distinguished patronage of Saint Lucia's Governor General, Her Excellency Dame Pearlette Louisy, who is also the patron of the Festival of Light slated for Wednesday 12’h December at the Derek Walcott Square from 6:30 in the evening.

 

This year’s theme for the Festival of Light is “Kléti pour lape.” meaning “Light for Peace.”  Mayor of Castries,  Irvin John, will deliver the welcome remarks while Central Castries Representative Honourable Richard Frederick will deliver a Christmas message. The Festival of Light features the Lantern Competition and this year Saint Lucian performers will pay Tribute to Jeff Elva, the Mighty Pelay featuring his famous Christmas Compositions.

 

These performers will include Animator;  Minel, TC Brown,  Kurtweil Felix. Sally Elwin, Frank Norville & the Lucians and Pelay himself.   . Other performers  for the Festival of Light  are Les Danseurs Twaditionelle, Cecilans Rays. Miracle Dancers, Marchand You1th Group, Helen Folk Dancers with Sugar Cane providing the musical accompaniment. This year’s reigning Carnival Queen, Soriah John will official switch on the fights.

 

The Festival of Carols will feature Lady of the Assumption Church of Vieux Fort, Liberty Voices, Freedom Choir of Gros Islet,   Saint  Lucia School of Music, Vieux Fort Community Choir, Saint Lucia National Youth Choir, Canaries Choir, Saint Lucia School of Music,  Vieux Fort Community Choir; Our Ladies Choir, The Royal Saint Lucia Police Band, Cecilans Rays. Cathedral Junior Choir and Leverage North Stars.

 

Meanwhile  the National Day Jouvert will feature the Carnival Band Bad Company for back in lime music lovers and the Cultural Development Foundation will provide a music truck from 4 — 8 am along an approved and authorized route by the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force.
