Friday, August 31, 2007 – The OECS Secretariat is still recovering from the passage of Hurricane Dean on August 17th but is reporting that operations are gradually returning to a state of normalcy.
Senior Communications Officer of the OECS Secretariat Kendol Morgan says the structural damage to the building necessitated finding alternative accommodation for some sections of the Headquarters.
'Business as usual was interrupted because the main Secretariat building suffered some damage to the roof and because of the fact that there was some water damage to the floor. As a result officers working in that part of the building had to be relocated and that took several days. Several departments were unaffected or only in a minimal way so they have been up and running from very early and are already operational, others are moving up to speed but the work continues because the Secretariat still has the responsibility of the development of the sub-region.”.
He said in spite of the challenges the Secretariat is doing all possible to keep up with its professional commitments. On the brighter side some additional space was readily available in the immediate vicinity at Morne Fortune making continuity of business easier to manage. |
