Tuesday, April 3, 2007 – The spirit of volunteerism demonstrated by the corporate sector and citizens alike has been receiving high commendation from the National Community Foundation. The NCF is in preparation mode for hosting of its biggest calendar event - the National Telethon - on April 15th.

As explained by NCF Director Jacintha Annius Lee, the task is very demanding but the organization has received and will continue to receive tremendous assistance from its growing cadre of volunteers. Speaking to the many roles which will be undertaken by volunteers at this year's telethon Ms. Lee said:

“We have the members of the Lions club who will be responsible for the gate, the Leo's Club will be responsible for the children's entertainment, the NIC Sports Club and the Bank of Saint Lucia staff will be responsible for the bars at the park and First National Bank will have a couple of volunteers there who will be responsible for ensuring that people submit their credit cards in order to donate. Friends of Victoria will be responsible for the refreshments and the meals.”

The National Trust went the distance this year for the NCF by granting a 100 percent waiver to the National Community Foundation for the use of the Pigeon Island National Park 's Side Lawn. The venue usually carries a $ 7,000.00 tag. Further, the staff of the Trust will provide support as volunteers at the upcoming event.

“I want to thank our volunteers and when I say volunteer, I would like to include the performers- the artistes; they are coming on board to help the NCF and they're not charging us and I really have to express the appreciation of Board members.”

The title sponsor for the event is Digicel. So far over 30 corporate sponsors have come on
board for the biggest philanthropic event held in Saint Lucia.
