Tuesday, April 24, 2007 – Member of Parliament with responsibility for the Central Castries constituency, Honourable Richard Frederick, outlined several initiatives already put into effect to address some of the issues which he believes will enhance the overall enhancement of the city's status.

He said some of the problems are infrastructural but others are generally perpetuated by the negative behaviour of citizens.

“Madame Speaker,” explained the parliamentarian, “among the tasks undertaken and completed are the painting of both markets, - vendors' and provisions'. The Arcade was given a facelift. The façade of the CDCs along Jeremie and Peynier Streets were painted. The wall on Jeremie Street next to the Morne Du Don bus Stand has been refreshed. Everyone Madame Speaker, can see the beautiful paintings on both sides of the wall next to SLASPA as you drive from Bananne next to Castries.”

Minister Frederick indicated that in coming weeks the agenda of the Castries City Council will become very hectic as legislation will be enforced in attempts to ensure efforts to enhance the ambience of the city are not defeated. “All public facilities are being upgraded and to force their use Madme Speaker, the by-laws of the Castries City Council are being amended to facilitate the imposition of a fine on persons who urinate in the city indiscriminately.”

Another focus area of city upliftment will be the Bideau Park located along Laborie Street.
