Workshop in Warehouse Management for Saint Lucia |
Barbados, February 3, 2006 (CDERA) – Emergency relief
personnel will attend a two-day Warehouse Management Workshop being
facilitated by Caribbean Disaster Emergency Response Agency (CDERA) and the
National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO) in Saint Lucia.
Participants will be trained in the principles and procedures of warehouse
management including storage procedures, stock management, preservation and
packaging and material handling equipment requirements.
The Course is being conducted in all of CDERA 16 Participating States within
the context of the Model Integrated Relief Programme which focuses on the
development of a policy, plan and procedures for managing relief supplies.
The end result is to have a cadre of trained emergency relief personnel in
each country capable of meeting the challenges generally associated with
managing the receipt, storage and distribution of relief supplies.
The Warehouse Management Course is also part of a wider EC$8 million (US$3
million) Land-based Search and Rescue Project being implemented by CDERA
which seeks to develop, by March 2006, enhanced search and rescue
infrastructure at the national and regional levels as well as provide
training in search and rescue techniques.
The Project is funded by the Government of Japan through the United Nations
Trust Fund for Human Security which is managed by the United Nations
Development Programme.
This workshop begins February 6 at the Bay Gardens Hotel.
