Friday, December 22, 2006 - Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, Sir John Compton, met with H.E. Ambassador Zeng Gang and H.E. Ambassador Zhao Zhenyu, on December 22, 2006. The two parties held a cordial conversation at the Prime Minister’s official residence.

“That the Chinese Government has sent a delegation to Saint Lucia shortly after the new government of Saint Lucia was formed,” said Sir John “demonstrates that the government of China attaches great importance to the Saint Lucia-China relations. The Government and people of Saint Lucia sincerely welcome the delegation’s visit.”

H.E. Ambassador Zeng Gang delivered to Sir John a congratulatory message from Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao. In the message, Premier Wen extended his warm congratulations and best wishes to Sir John on his assumption of office as Prime Minister of Saint Lucia and intimated that China is prepared to work with Saint Lucia's new government to advance the friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries that will benefit the two peoples.

Saint Lucia, Sir John said, will not change its foreign policy with the change of government.

Premier Wen also took the opportunity to invite Sir John to visit China at his convenience.

The Prime Minister expressed his gratitude to the Government of China for its valuable assistance over the years which has resulted in the socio-economic development of the country and expressed his thanks to Premier Wen for inviting him to visit China and his readiness to take up the offer at a convenient time.

Present at the meeting were. H.E. Gu Huaming, Chinese Ambassador to Saint Lucia, Hon. Rufus Bousquet, Saint Lucia’s Minister for External Affairs, International Financial Services, Information and Broadcasting., and Hon. Lenard Montoute, Minister for Social Transformation, Human Services, Family Affairs, Youth and Sports.
