FRC Appeals to Vendors |
Contact: Claudia Monlouis Friday, August 18, 2006 – The Folk Research Centre, the organizer of national Jounen Kweyol activities, is calling on food vendors to promote local cuisine on Jounen Kweyol. The appeal comes as the planning has started for this year's celebrations and again attention has been focused on maintaining the high standards which has been set in the past. Cause for concern has arisen especially because “roving vendors” tend to detract from the objective of the event. Director of the Folk Research Centre Kennedy Boots Samuel says over the years, vendors have played an important role in preparing a number of traditional dishes for sale on the occasion. He says vendors from the host communities are included in the planning process. However some persons adopt a less organised approach. “The communities have good menus. What happens is that on the day, you see truckloads of things that other vendors bring from far and wide across St. Lucia and all over the place that are not under the control of all the laws we had in place and all the meetings we had before”. This year the FRC is hoping that more vendors will display responsibility at the Jounen Kweyol activities. |
