PM Urges Conclusion of Negotiations for Daily Paid Workers |
Contact: Prime Minister's Press Secretary Monday, April 3, 2006 - Prime Minister Dr. Kenny D. Anthony is calling on the National Workers Union to complete outstanding negotiations with the Government on behalf of daily paid workers. The government last December announced a 10 percent increase for Public servants at the end of negotiations between the trade unions representing public servants and the Government’s Negotiating Team. However, the Government has so far been unable to agree on an award for daily paid workers. That’s because negotiations with the National Workers Union, which represents the bulk of daily paid workers, have remained outstanding three months after negotiations with the other unions were settled. The Prime Minister, who is engaged in preparations for the 2006-2007 Budget, says it’s time to conclude the negotiations for daily paid workers so that they could be paid their benefits. Dr. Anthony said: “The National Workers Union and the Government’s Negotiating Team need to get together and bring these negotiations to an amicable conclusion.” “After all,” he continued, “it’s unfair to the daily paid workers to have them continue to wait while talks with their union Dr.ag on beyond the end of another Financial Year.”
