Monday, April 10, 2006 – The National Community Foundation will today
April 12th, meet with its 90 scholarship holders and their parents for
discussion on matters of concern with a view to press ahead on common ground.
The latest figures from the NCF indicate that from its inception in August of
2002 to February 28, 2006, the Foundation has disbursed almost EC$800,000.00 to
assist needy and disadvantaged students in meeting the cost of secondary and
tertiary education.
Administrative Officer of the NCF Clarita Monrose said the NCF has engaged
parents and students in dialogue to ensure that channels of communication remain
open, friendly and accessible to beneficiaries.
“ This meeting will assist us in finding out what issues are effecting those
scholarship holders and it will also give us an opportunity to speak with those
students in order to make the scholarship a better one. The NCF would like to
remind the scholarship holders along with parents to attend this very important
meeting. It will be held on the fifth floor of the NIC Building in the
conference room .”
Ms. Monrose said scholarship holders come from secondary schools across the
island as well as the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College..
The NCF is also reminding the public of its biggest fund-raising activity – the
“National Telethon” scheduled for April 23rd at Pigeon Island. The scholarship
programme is but one of the philanthropic ventures which is supported by the
proceeds of the NCF's National telethon.
