Thursday, April 6, 2006 - Budget Day is Tuesday, April 25. That’s the word from Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Dr Kenny D. Anthony.

Making the disclosure today, the Prime Minister, who has been meeting over the past weeks with finance and accounting officials of Government Departments, Ministries and Cabinet Ministers, said preparations for this year’s budget are “well advanced.”

The Prime Minister says “this is the final budget before the next General Elections.”

He also says that “like with previous budgets, this year’s presentation will be preceded by the traditional Throne Speech,” which will be delivered by Her Excellency the Governor General, Dame Pearlette Louisy.
No figures are yet available, but the Prime Minister says the economy registered approximately 5.4% growth last year.”

“This budget,” he said, “will build on that growth rate in 2006/07.”

The Prime Minister’s Budget Address will summarize the Estimates of Revenue and Expenditure for the financial year 2006-07 and the Members of the House of Assembly will debate the Government’s budgetary proposals after the presentation.
