Tuesday, September 20, 2005 - Saint Lucia will be the venue of a
Caribbean Regional HIV/AIDS Consultation organized by the World Bank. The
consultation will be held over two days September 26th to the 27th and will
bring together key persons involved in World Bank funded HIV / AIDS projects
from Saint Lucia and the Caribbean region.
A key component of these World Bank funded HIV/AIDS Projects in the region is
the establishment of Secretariats to direct the implementation of HIV/AIDS
prevention and control efforts. The newly established National HIV/AIDS
Programme Secretariat (NAPS) and the Project Coordination Unit (PCU) will be
representing Saint Lucia at this consultation.
Deputy Project Coordinator of the PCU Miss Cheryl Mathurin says the consultation
will enable dialogue and exchange of ideas with the World Bank Team and
Caribbean counterparts who are involved with implementation of similar HIV/ AIDS
Projects. It will also facilitate and accelerate project implementation.
Senior Public Health Specialist of the World Bank and Task Team Leader for the
Saint Lucia HIV/AIDS Project, Miss Mary Mulusa, will lead the World Bank team.
The World Bank will seek an update on the progress of project implementation in
key areas. The achievement of individual country goals for prevention of
HIV/AIDS, the obstacles and challenges faced by countries which may impact on
the sustainability of their programs and the exploration of ways to increase
efficiencies in the execution of projects.
The two-day consultation will be held at the Royal Saint Lucian from 8:30 a.m.
