Coconut Bay Receives First Guests |
Contact: Prime Minister's Press Secretary Tuesday, March 29, 2005 - The new Coconut Bay Resort in Vieux Fort is open for business and has received its first guests. The first batch of guests for the former Club Med hotel began to arrive over the holiday weekend. The hotel, which is now totally transformed with larger rooms, now features St. Lucia’s only Water Park. It also features a new spa and a new restaurant. The former Club Med was taken over two years ago by an enterprising Jamaican family headed by Carl Hendrickson, an entrepreneur best known for introducing sliced bread to Jamaica. Apart from its success in the baking industry, the Hendrickson family has been building a name for itself in the hospitality sector. The new hotel, which has been expanded from the old Club Med base, is expected to employ some 300 workers when it becomes fully operationalized.
