Tuesday, June 07, 2005 - The Saint Lucia Chamber of Commerce will join
the Barbados Chamber of Commerce for a series of two workshops on exploiting
opportunities for investments with the hosting of World Cup 2007 in the
Caribbean.
The first of the two workshops will be held in Barbados on June 22nd to be
followed by another in Saint Lucia the date of which has not been determined.
Executive Director of the Saint Lucia Chamber Mr Brian Louisy said Barbados was
a natural partner to explore possibilities for joint ventures and other
investments because of the experience of already having presented a joint bid
with Saint Lucia to host matches in cricket’s biggest event.
The workshop will address what investment opportunities are available in
Barbados to Saint Lucian businesses and what is in Saint Lucia for Barbadians
wishing to invest in Saint Lucia.
The Chamber said the staging of such an event in the Caribbean presents
tremendous opportunities for long-term economic growth in the region.
The Barbados workshop will be addressed by Sir Charles Williams Chairman of C O
Williams Group of Companies. Three presenters from Barbados and St. Lucia will
outline the likely business projects; they are Mr Andrew McConney of Ernst and
Young Barbados, Mr Richard Peterkin Price Water House Coopers, St. Lucia and Mr
Stephen Alleyne, CEO World Cup Barbados Inc.
Since the announcement of Saint Lucia’s winning bid the Government of Saint
Lucia has presented a schedule of incentives for investments for World Cup 2007.
Members of the Business Community are invited to join the Saint Lucia delegation
to Barbados.
