Tuesday, January 25, 2005 - The Ministry of Social Transformation,
Culture and Local Government, is assisting Community Based Organizations in
enhancing positive group dynamics and conflict resolution skills. The latest
efforts in this regard took place on Tuesday, January 25, involving members of
some twenty Community Based Organisations in Babonneau and Gros Islet.
Community Based Officer for Babonneau Mrs. Norma Herman, said the workshop
focussed on community group leaders, as they are responsible for maintaining
cohesiveness and smooth relations in their groups. She said one of the
objectives of the workshop was to impress upon them, that when dealing with
several personalities, differences of opinion are likely to arise, but can be
dealt with positively.
“We expect that type of training to bring them closer together and we expect to
see a difference in the way the groups operate, because we are going to enhance
their capacity to deal with whatever confusion that may come up within the
group, because we have told them before, there will always be some sort of
misunderstanding within the group, because you are dealing with grown –ups and
different types of persons,” Mrs. Herman said.
The workshop targeted mothers and fathers groups, disaster preparedness groups
and other community based organizations. It was facilitated by Mrs. Fortuna
Belrose and Mrs. Cecilia George, Assistant Directors for Community Services in
the Ministry of Social Transformation, Culture and Local Government.
