Wednesday, February 23, 2005 - The Standing National Independence
Anniversary Committee has said that all went well with the staging of activities
to mark Saint Lucia’s 26th Anniversary of Independence.
The committee said the celebrations were memorable, because the event attracted
wide support from the Saint Lucian public. The committee said it was grateful
for the way the public turned out to the many events.
This year, a large crowd witnessed the parade at the Mindoo Phillip Park on
Independence morning. The Concert of Praise and Inspiration at the National
Cultural Centre was well attended, while the National Ecumenical Service at the
Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Castries saw more Saint Lucians
coming out to the service.
The Committee expressed thanks to the electronic and print media for their
support in publicising the events in the weeks and days leading up to
Independence.
The collaboration of all the committees was said to have brought to life, this
year’s theme: “Working together with Pride to Build Our Nation”.
