 Tuesday, February 15, 2005 – St. Lucia’s top sports performers for 2004
will be recognised this weekend, as the Department of Youth and Sports prepares
to stage the annual Sports Awards Ceremony at the National Cultural Centre this
Saturday night.

Nominations have been made by the various national sporting associations for the
prestigious awards, and shortlists from the various categories have already been
made by the Department of Youth and Sports.

Youth and Sports Officer Philip Anthony told the GIS, that the programme for the
evening would maintain its focus on the sports personalities being honoured: “In
the last few years, the programme has been changed slightly because we used to
have a feature speaker. But because of many complaints that the ceremony was
dragging on for hours and hours and was taking away from the athletes who were
being honoured on the night, we decided to take this part out of the programme.
But the other parts in terms of speeches by the Permanent Secretary and the
Minister will be on, and in terms of entertainment, we have a skit and a dance
before we get down to the actual awards.”

Short listed for the Junior Male award are, Darwin Edwards, Craig Emmanuel and
Alberton Richilieu jnr. and for Junior Female, Tresssa Ann Charles, Maria David
and Danielle Beaubrun.

Laverne Spencer, Nadine George, Sherma Isidore, Sarah Alexander and Natasha
George are short listed for the Senior Female award and among the men are Darvin
Edwards, Darren Sammy, Charlie Sonson, Jonathan Calderon and Vernon Lewis.
