Wednesday, August 17, 2005 - The Government of Saint Lucia has extended condolences to the government and people of Martinique on the passing of 152 of its nationals in a plane crash in Venezuela. The crash which is believed to have resulted from engine failure occurred in a mountain range on Tuesday morning near the border between Colombia and Venezuela.

Prime Minister Dr. Kenny D. Anthony says he was touched by the accident and shares the pain and sorrow of the entire nation of Martinique which is attempting to deal with their tremendous loss. The majority of the persons, where returning from Panama, were residents of the community of Ducos in Central Martinique. Others came from the communities of Saint Esprit, Francoise and Basse Point.

The Prime Minister added that the Government extends its hope that the families will gather the strength to deal with their loss.
