Tuesday, November 16, 2004 - The St. Lucia National Olympic Karate
Federation will be staging the second annual Junior National Olympic Karate
Championship at the National Cultural Centre, Barnard Hill on Sunday.
According to President of the Federation, Ezra Jn. Baptiste, the rationale
behind the championship is to establish a mechanism whereby St. Lucia will soon
be able to participate in the Olympic Karate Championship.
“The effort is geared towards setting a platform so that in the future, we will
have some kind of representation at the Olympic level. The event on the 21st
will involve two main events - kata events ages ranging from 6-20, as well as in
the kumite events. We are looking forward to having quite a number of young
participants at this particular championship. This I believe is going to augur
well for the future of karate because right now we need to pay attention to the
youth, and that is exactly what we are doing”, Mr. Jn. Baptiste said.
