Thursday, November 4, 2004 -  The launching of a book by St. Lucian journalist Earl Bousquet will be one of the highlights of the official launching ceremony of the St. Lucia-China Friendship Association on Friday evening, November 5.

The book, entitled “Ten Days Behind The Great Wall” is a compilation of articles written by Mr. Bousquet during a ten-day visit to China in September 2003. It also includes 48 digital colour photographs taken by the author during the visit to the three Chinese cities, Beijing, Xiamen and Shanghai.

Mr. Bousquet, who is President of the Association, says: “The book seeks to convey in words and pictures, memories of an unforgettable visit to a country that symbolizes the past, the present and the future.”

The author visited China last year as the leader of a group of 21 journalists from 12 CARICOM territories.

Friday night’s launching ceremony, which takes place from 6:00 pm at the National Insurance Corporation (NIC) Conference Centre on the 5th Floor of the NIC Building on the Castries Waterfront, will feature addresses by officials of the association and representatives of the Government of the People’s Republic of China. It will also be attended by local invitees as well as representatives of the Chinese community in St. Lucia.

Among the highlights of the programme for the evening are: exhibitions of photos, posters, literature and products from China, as well as a special video presentation by the GIS on the recent visit to China by Her Excellency the Governor General, Dame Pearlette Louisy. (During that trip, Her Excellency became the 400th Head of State to visit The Great Wall.)

Also on the programme for Friday evening’s official launching of the Association is a performance of the Chinese arts of Wushu and Tai Chi by a local practitioner of the art form.

The Association was launched at the same venue on September 27, 2004, when it adopted a Constitution with Aims and Objectives of promoting people-to-people contact between St. Lucia and China, especially through cultural and sporting exchanges.

Members of the Executive Committee elected at the inaugural meeting are: President -Earl Bousquet; Vice President - Velon John; Secretary – Michelle Charles; Assistant Secretary – Lucy Alexander; Treasurer – Victor Eudoxie; and Public Relations Officer - David Vitalis.

Membership of the Association is voluntary and open to anyone willing to accept its Constitution, Aims and Objectives.
Mr. Bousquet says application forms for membership will be available at the launching ceremony.
