Wednesday, May 12, 2004 - Small hoteliers and managers will benefit from a four day certified training programme in the areas of hotel operation and food and beverage management, which will be hosted by the Ministry of Tourism in collaboration with the Organisation of American States, the OAS.

This training workshop which takes place from May 17th to the 21st at the Cara Suites Hotel in La Pansee, is expected to broaden as well as sharpened the managerial skills of small hotel owners and managers.

Tourism Officer with responsibility for small properties, Miss. Deepa Girdari says the workshop will target particularly new hotel owners. The participants will be taught among other things, the functions of a property, the right approach in upgrading standards, techniques or procedures in documenting their business properly, proper management skills, cost effective skills and how to avoid wastage.

According to Miss. Girdari, at the end of the four day training workshop, participants will be presented with certificates issued by the globally recognised, American Hotel and Lodging Association Educational Institute. “So it’s going to be an added plus for the hotelier at the end of the day, when he or she goes out there to market their business and it is seen that such a business is certified by the American Hotel and Lodging Association.
The clients that they are trying to attract are going to be able to connect right away and recognise that these people are providing a quality product and quality service”, Girdari said.

The workshop will also involve some interactive sessions and participants have been asked to bring along a lap top computer which is also expected to improve their computer skills in the process.
