Tuesday, May 11, 2004 – Saint Lucia Jazz was opened at the Mindoo Phillip Park in Marchand Castries by Minister of Tourism Honourable Phillip J. Pierre. He says the 7-year life of the opening at Marchand is testimony of the loyalty and commitment of the late Chairman of the Tourist Board, Desmond Skeete, to the success of the official launching introduced 6 years after the Saint Lucia Jazz first began.

The Friday, May 7th 2004 launching featured Kassav, Third World, local band X-Tent, reggae artiste Daddy Twan and Emrand Henry.

Tourism officials say it was the largest crowd in the 7 year history of the opening at the Mindoo Phillip Park. The board was successful in the management of traffic with the help of the police, as well as crowd control through well marked entry and exit points at the park.

Security at the launching was at an all time high, with the police personnel augmented with private security men and women from the events security firm “Men in Black.” The event was incident-free.
