Desmond Skeete enjoying a light moment during Independence celebrations in February

Wednesday, May 05, 2004 - Prime Minister, Honourable Dr. Kenny Anthony on Monday expressed condolences on the sudden passing of the late Chairman of the Tourist Board, Mr. Desmond Skeete, who died Thursday, 29th April. Dr. Anthony described Mr. Skeete as an individual who put country before self and displayed impeccable character in carrying out his duties. According to Dr. Anthony his contribution to Saint Lucia was immense and will be sorely missed.

“Desmond always put St. Lucia first, above self. He was a remarkable individual, incapable of anger, rancour and ill-will; truly he was a consummate diplomat. We all will miss Desmond’s enthusiasm, his dedication, thoroughness and most of all his professionalism. It is rare to find in anyone individual such a sophisticated combination of skills. Personally I will miss his trusted counsel and his most genuine friendship. May he rest in peace” said Prime Minister Anthony in his tribute.

Desmond Skeete was an MBA graduate from Yale University, who went on to make an unmatched contribution to the development of the Jazz Festival and Sports Tourism in Saint Lucia. His funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 06th, at the Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception. Mr. Skeete was 57 years old.
