Monday, March 01, 2004 - The Ministry of Education has received over ten
thousand dollars for the staging of the “Secondary Schools Food Preparation
Competition”. The main sponsor, the St. Lucia Coconut Growers Association made
the presentation last week.
In this competition students must use one of the shortenings manufactured by the
association in developing an original recipe. Curriculum Officer Miss Mary Julie
King says the competition promotes an understanding of the many ways in which
locally produced foods can be used.
She says students will prove through the development of their own recipes, that
the shortenings can be combined with indigenous foods, as well as the other
traditional staples to make creative foods that are both appealing to the eyes
and palate.
This is the second year the association is sponsoring the event, and this year,
the company welcomes GBTS as a sponsor and is hoping for others to join them and
the Ministry of Education in staging the competition.
