Thursday, March 11, 2004 - In an effort to take stock of its in-house
operations and most importantly, to pave the way for the reshaping and
implementation of a new mission and vision for the Ministry of Health, Family
Affairs, Human Services and Gender Relations, a staff retreat for heads of
departments within the health service was convened at the end of February.
At the forum with his staff, Minister for Health, Family Affairs, Human Services
and Gender Relations, Honourable Damian Greaves underscored the need for the
various departments of his Ministry to work in tandem with each other, all in an
effort to ensure that meaningful strides are taken towards health-sector reform.
“We were not quite satisfied how the Ministry of Health was operating, using a
kind of compartmentalised approach in its work, with every division being
concerned solely about their area of responsibility. We want to develop some
synergy, among the departments, greater interaction, greater communication among
the various departments and greater team effort and team work, in terms of the
pursuits of the Ministry,” he remarked.
In addressing some of its issues and concerns the Ministry has enlisted the
assistance of Mr. Vereaux Moruillon of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank. He is
expected to guide the entity to achieve a newly defined approach to meeting the
nation’s expectations.
“In the new vision, we are saying we want to be the nation’s leader in
facilitating optimal wellness in the entire population. That is what we are
looking at, in terms of the vision. We are also looking at the new mission, and
there’s going to be a specific team that will finalise all those plans”
explained the Minister.
Minister Greaves said that the retreat resulted in renewed vigour and commitment
towards carrying out the several critical functions of the Ministry.
