Tuesday, March 02, 2004 - Minister for Commerce, Tourism and Consumer
Affairs, Honourable Philip J. Pierre, has lauded local manufacturer’s efforts in
boosting the industry’s production level last year to reach the international
market.
Mr. Pierre, who was at that time addressing the launch of Du Boulay Bottling
Company’s, newest product, Coco Cola Light at the Coco Kweyol hotel in Rodney
Bay at the weekend, described 2003 as a very good year for local manufacturing.
Mr. Pierre stated that during the past year the country had witnessed the
formation of strategic alliances among many local companies. According to the
Commerce Minister, these companies are now involved in business ventures, making
it possible for them to be able to produce internationally renowned and high
quality products. Mr. Pierre described Coco Cola Light is an example of a
product that is internationally known and is produce locally.
“We want products made in St. Lucia to be of a quality that can be sustained
anywhere in the world. And when we speak about buying local, we mean buying
quality product” Minister Pierre said.
Mr. Pierre also expressed the hope that the hotels, being aware of the
international standard maintained by the manufacturers, would purchase a greater
volume of local products to generate more foreign exchange .
