Castries July 14th 2004 - The St. Lucia Tourist Board has partnered with Expedia.com to introduce a fully interactive booking engine to its main web site www.stlucia.org. Visitors can now book airline, Hotel, Car rental or entire packages on the web. A comment from SLTB Director Peter Hilary Modeste suggests that the new feature may help to drive increased business to the island, “Preliminary responses from our web statistics so far show that the ability to book services on line in real time stimulates impulse buying by visitors to the website.”

The new Expedia booking engine also provides a number of internet marketing tools: The site has a comprehensive destination search, interactive map, back office site management tools, availability in multiple languages, travel trade section, automated brochure requests and many other features. The St. Lucia Tourist Board chose to align its website with Expedia in order to take advantage of the company’s dominance in the market as an on-line booking engine.  The company’s recent acquisition of another major travel website Hotels.com is also an added advantage as Expedia has shown a keen interest in working with the Board toward the achievement of its marketing goals for St. Lucia.

“Improvements such as these are part of a larger commitment by the St. Lucia Tourist Board to develop an effective e-marketing strategy that can increase commercial results for the island’s tourism industry,” says Peter Hilary Modeste, Director of Tourism. The new booking engine is the latest addition to a string of improvements to the www.stlucia.org website. There are new features such as online jazz ticket bookings and an interactive electronic wallpaper which can be used as a form of perpetual advertising on the personal computers of visitors who use the website. The St. Lucia Tourist Board has also extended its e-marketing strategy to include a small hotels website which will be serviced by the new Expedia booking engine.
