Hon. Menissa Rambally

Friday, January 30, 2004 - One of the largest footpath and drains projects of the Poverty Reduction Fund is ongoing in the Crown Lands- Marc community. The project which started late last year is being funded by the Special Framework for Assistance Fund. Minister for Social Transformation and Member of Parliament for Castries South East Honourable Menissa Rambally toured the area on Tuesday, January 27, 2004, to assess the progress of the ongoing works. She noted her satisfaction as well as that of the residents.

“There are some seventy one households in Morne Rouge and in the last couple of months the residents of this community made a request through the Poverty Reduction Fund for a project of this nature.” Over one hundred residents will receive employment on a rotational basis, throughout this project.

“The objectives are threefold: to provide much needed infrastructure to the community,: to provide much needed employment for a number of persons in the area, who were previously employed in the agricultural sector particularly on the banana fields and to provide particularly young persons with opportunities for skills training and capacity building.”
