Thursday, January 15, 2004 - The United States Postal Service has notified St. Lucia’s Postal Service of the implementation of new procedures in respect to commercial mail. Assistant Post Master General Philomene St.Clair says the new procedures are to take immediate effect.

“Prior to the notice Individuals and businesses alike would have been expected to declare all items being mailed as a parcel or packet. However the US has now informed that although the arrangement remains the same for non- commercial items, or items prepared from a person’s own residence, the commercial houses would be required to seek a prior notice confirmation number and this number can be obtained via the website address - www.access.fda.gov/index.html#prior.”

According to St. Clair this confirmation number will be required for the mailing of any food or drug item to the United States. The United States Postal Services has been implementing several post 9/11 security measures.
