Friday, January 09, 2004 – Key among the many changes that will occur in
the public health care system when the new general and psychiatric hospitals
come into being, is that for the first time in the nation’s history, the two new
hospitals will share the same address on the 15.3 acres of land on the
Millennium highway, that government has allocated for the projects.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health Fidelis Williams says there will
be a demarcation between the two hospitals but the physical proximity of the two
will allow for shared services. The site will therefore be known as a Medical
Complex.
Williams says the $6.5 million psychiatric facility will be completed before the
$67million new general hospital. The new hospital will contain 180 beds and
include new medical equipment that is expected to raise the level of health care
provided to the public.
