Thursday, February 05, 2004 - The Ministry of Youth and Sports is gearing up for the annual National Sports Awards.

This year the awards ceremony will take place on Friday February twentieth at the National Cultural Centre from 7:30 pm

Youth and Sports Officer Patrick Mathurin says there is a new addition to the programme which will enable the ministry to widen the pool of persons to be recognized.

Twenty five persons who have contributed to the development of sports at different levels as players, coaches and administrators will be honoured in the True Ambassadors 25 programme.

Mathurin says this segment was added especially as St. Lucia celebrates 25 years of independence.

The Youth and Sports Officers says at the close of nominations 35 names were received for the top awards of Sports Man and Woman of the Year, Junior Sportsman and woman Year and Association of the Year.

For further information call Patrick Mathurin at (758) 468-5412
