Wednesday, February 25, 2004 - Prime Minister Dr. Kenny D. Anthony has
expressed deep appreciation and much gratitude for the high and positive
involvement of all St. Lucians in last weekend’s celebration of the island’s
25th Independence Anniversary.
Dr. Anthony praised the Royal St. Lucia Police Force for the dedication
exhibited in the performance of their duty, including their precision-executed
military tattoo in their various presentations.
Pointing to the Royal St. Lucia Police Band, the Prime Minister said, “The
Police Band plays a very essential role in uplifting the spirit of civic
ceremonies”. He said no civic event would be the same without the sounds of the
Police Band.
“The Gala Evening was a night to remember”, Dr. Anthony said of the main event,
which was held at the Mindoo Philip Park last Saturday night, in commemoration
of St. Lucia’s 25th Anniversary of Independence.
In particular, he praised Adrian Augier for the formidable cultural
presentation, ANTHEM: A Statement of St. Lucia’s Independence and
Self-determination. “This presentation had imagination and vision and I take my
hat off to all who were involved”, he said.
The event, which was also, attended by Her Excellency the Governor General and
HRH the Duke of York lit the skies over the Marchand community as the curtain
came down with a fireworks display, ushering in Sunday, February 22,
Independence Day.
The Prime Minister praised very highly, the work which went into the National
Trade and Services Exhibition at the Free Zone in Vieux-Fort, citing in
particular, the organising committee of the St. Lucia Chamber of Commerce,
Industry and Agriculture and its chairman, Lokesh Singh.
Also coming for high praise, was Showcase 25, the 5-day exhibition at Point
Seraphine, highlighting the contribution of the public sector and Non-Government
Organisations to the country’s process of development over the past twenty-five
years.
And for the committee which put the entire Independence programme together, the
Standing National Independence Anniversary Committee chaired by Cabinet
Secretary, Dr. James Fletcher, the Prime Minister expressed great satisfaction
with the standard of events.
The Prime Minister also thanked the Cultural Development Foundation, St. Lucia
Solid Waste Management Authority, the Ministries of Health and Communications,
the National Conservation Authority and the committee of the National Insurance
Corporation and chairman, Emma Hippolyte for their high level contribution to
the success of the Independence Anniversary programme.
