Monday, February 09, 2004 - The communities comprising Castries South,
Faux a Chaud, Ciceron, Goodlands, Ti-Colon/Bas St. Joseph and Marigot have put
together a programme to mark the 25th Anniversary of Saint Lucia’s Independence.
The activities, which are to begin in the weeks leading up to independence will
focus on community building initiatives, with Faux a Chaud residents embarking
on an intensive campaign to give their community a facelift, while in Ciceron, a
dormant youth and sporting group, the Seagulls will be given new life.
Community Development Officer for Castries South, Miss Margaret Lubrin says all
of the communities have been able to make a contribution to mark this milestone
in St. Lucia’s development. Marigot residents will put together an independence
committee, which will go on to serve in other capacities, including efforts to
address disaster mitigation issues in the community.
Castries South has teamed up with a number of agencies, including the St. Lucia
Solid Waste Management Authority, Ministries of Health and Communication, and
the National Conservation Authority NCA to execute its independence programmes.
