Tuesday, August 17, 2004 - In an effort to assist Banana fanners and shareholders of the SLBC in the timely purchasing of school books for their children and dependents for the academic year 2004/2005, the St. Lucia Banana Company (SLBC) has embarked on an exercise titled “Farmers School Books Relief Programme”.

The programme is geared at addressing some of the cash flow problems farmers usually experience in the purchasing of school books for their loved ones.

The Programme is an express payment system whereby, farmers can sell their bananas and receive payment on the Friday of the same week of sale. In order for farmers and shareholders to become part of the programme, they must register with their SLBC Field Officers, Regional Managers, Carton Sales Assistants or the Liaison officer at the Head Office in Castries. The programme will be in place for two weeks in time for the re-opening of school.

Commencing week # 35, which involves farmers selling bananas for the two weeks commencing of 23rd and 30th of August, 2004 and has registered for the programme, they will receive payments for their bananas on Friday of the same week of sale. These farmers, upon request, will be given a waiver from Cess and GFUND Accounts owed, during the two-week period of relief.

The SCHOOL BOOKS RELIEF PROGRAMME is extended to SLBC’s entire shareholding farmers.
