National Beautification Programme pays out over $500,000 |
Over half a million dollars will be paid out this week to persons employed in the National Beautification Programme administered by the National Conservation Authority (NCA). One of the objectives of the Programmme is to provide employment for skilled and semi-skilled persons who are unemployed, and to bring relief to persons from depressed Communities, and those with special needs. Workers have been directed by the NCA to focus on the proper collection and disposal of plastic waste and disaster mitigation. They are also engaged in the cleaning and beautification of their communities, the maintenance and management of the coastal zone (beaches), and the development and management of community parks. Over 1,300 persons from communities island-wide, gained employment during this phase of the National Beautification Programme. Contact: M.V.
