Tuesday, August 17, 2004 - Children of Anse La Vedere in the Anse La
Raye/Canaries constituency will have a lot to tell about their unique summer
when they return to school for the new academic year 2004/2005, following the
completion of a comprehensive summer school. Programme. Participants from the
age of five years attended the summer school hosted by a group of Canadians led
by Michelle Anderson, Executive Director of the activity, which was dubbed
“The St. Lucia Learning Project.”
Mrs. Anderson who spoke to the Government Information Service at the official
closing, on Saturday, August 8th, 2004 said that over the four week period her
team of nine volunteers used learning techniques that would enable the children
to overcome difficulties with reading and basic Mathematics.
Parliamentary Representative for the Anse La Raye/Canaries constituency
Honourable Cyprian Lansiquot commended the initiative and effort invested in
keeping the children constructively occupied. “As you know the community of Anse
la Vedere is one of the poor communities on this island and whatever assistance,
whatever help that you’ll are giving us, we are indeed very grateful for it.”
Michelle Anderson who resides in Canada said that she was inspired to conduct
the project due to her family’s long history with Anse la Vedere, and her desire
to give back to the community.
