Contact:
George Jude Of the 37 School of Music candidates from the Castries and Vieux Fort centres who sat the examinations, 10 students (27%) scored distinction grades, 18 students (49%) scored merit grades and nine students (24%) scored pass grades. Candidates were examined in piano, violin, viola, cello, trumpet and singing. The average score was 124 out of 150 marks, well above the average score of 118 for students in England. During his stay in St Lucia, this year’s visiting examiner, Mr William Bruce, a string specialist, attended the end-of-term concert given by the school’s string students and had the highest praise for the string teaching being done, especially with the new primary schools string orchestra. Mr. Bruce also sat in on the dress rehearsal performance of the National Youth Choir on the eve of their departure for Tobago, and thanked the choir for giving him what he felt would surely be the high point of his visit to the islands.
