Hon. Dr. Kenny D. Anthony - Left and His Excellency Mr. Om Prakash - Right

Friday, April 02, 2004 - High Commissioner designate of India to St. Lucia, His Excellency Mr. Om Prakash expressed his government’s appreciation of the deeply valued democratic norms and traditions shared by both countries. Mr. Prakash made those statements while presenting his Letters of Credence to St. Lucia’s Governor General, Dame Pearlette Louisy at Government House Thursday.

According to the Indian High Commissioner, the relationship existing between these two countries is further enhanced through ties with international organisations. Mr. Prakash says India and St. Lucia have co-operated in the spirit of mutual respect and share similar views on issues of common concern.

“ We in India view with admiration the significant progress made by Saint Lucia in its quest for economic development and the rapid strides it has made in emerging as a major tourist destination”, Mr. Prakash said.

Governor General, Dame Pearlette Louisy, made reference to the benefits of many training courses offered by the government of India to St. Lucia, under the Indian Technical and Economic Co-operation. They include information technology, family planning, financial management, international trade, and small business/industry management, among others.

The Commissioner designate also paid a similar visit to Prime Minister, Honourable Dr. Kenny Anthony. During that session, Dr. Anthony promised to seek Mr. Prakash’s advice on how St. Lucia can draw on the experience of India in developing its own tourism sector.

His Excellency Prakash also expressed his country’s appreciation that many Indian professionals in the field of medicine and the small Indian business community are making a useful contribution to the local economy.
