Monday, May 19, 2003 - The Golden Hope Hospital on Thursday, May 15th
2003 received a shot in the arm from the Poverty Reduction Fund, PRF when they
presented the hospital with a quantity of sporting equipment and four computers
for use by the Occupational Therapy Department.
Administrator of the Golden Hope Hospital, Marlene Whitfield applauded the
gesture, saying that the equipment will be used to help in the overall
improvement of patients’ health care. “Many of you will no doubt be aware that
this institution has a long and unique history of making patients better through
Occupational Therapy -a history that goes as far back as 1959,” said Mrs.
Whitfield.
According to Whitfield, the therapeutic activities available for patients have
expanded to include indoor and outdoor activities such as craft making, football
and cricket.
“Over the years, we’ve seen a transformation in the Occupational Therapy
Department as new staff were attracted from other venues. Today under our
currents services, a younger population is seen, ranging in the early twenties
which demand an improved and equitable therapeutic care, tailored to their
needs.”
The Administrator appealed for continued support, not only from the Poverty
Reduction Fund but from other groups and business places.
