Monday, March 03, 2003 – On Sunday, twenty-four elderly persons of the
Faux -A-Chaux community were presented with gifts of hampers compliments Cable
and Wireless and were also treated to lunch and hors d’oeuvres from Sandals La
Toc and the Rex St. Lucian Hotel. The event formed part of the island’s 24th
Anniversary of Independence activities organised by the Faux -A- Chaux
Development Committee. One of the objectives of the Committee is to provide
support for senior citizens within the community by way of meals, house repairs,
medical care and physical therapy.
Member of Parliament for Castries South Honourable Jon Odlum remarked that a
merger between the old and the young is necessary to pave the way for assistance
and care of the elderly. The MP took the opportunity to acknowledge the
contribution of the Sisters of Mother Theresa of Calcutta who live in the
Faux-A-Chaux Community. Mr. Julian Jackson, winner of the Independence theme
competition and resident of Faux-A-Chaux was also recognised by the Committee
with a gift of a cell phone compliments Cable and Wireless.
