Tuesday, June 03, 2003 - The St. Lucia Fire Service is eagerly awaiting
the arrival of seven new fire appliances which are expected to augment the
ability of fire personnel to efficiently execute their duties. Fire Chief
Augustin Gaspard said the appliances expected from Austria, will be deployed to
newly opened fire stations on the island.
“As you know these new fire stations have to come with new equipment. So it was
a package that we got from government - not just the fire stations but also
equipment to go with the fire stations. And this equipment included seven new
fire appliances and four new ambulances.”
According to the Fire Chief, the ambulances are on island. Mr. Gaspard recently
returned from a trip to Austria, where he conducted a pre-delivery inspection of
the fire appliances.
Meanwhile the Fire Chief has expressed his concern about the recent spate of
fires, particularly in the south of the island, and has made an appeal for
persons to be more cautious and responsible.
