Tuesday, July 08, 2003 – Saint Lucia’s Governor General Her Excellency Dame Pearlette Louisy has been made an Honorary Distinguished Fellow by the University of the West Indies in recognition of her service to education in the region.

The Title which was recently created by the University is conferred on persons capable of contributing to the academic life of the University by virtue of their recognised accomplishments and attainments acquired through training and experience in industry, business and commerce, in the professions and in public sector development and management.

Nine other persons from the Caribbean were also honoured :

Faculty of Humanities and Education :

  • Mr. Stanley Greaves : Visual Artist
  • Mr. Anthony “Gabby” Carter : Musician

Faculty of Law :

  • The Honourable Sir David Simmons, Chief Justice of Barbados

Dr. Michael Hoyos, Retired Senior Lecturer

School of Clinical Medicine and Research :

  • Dr. Beverley Miller, Chief Medical Officer, Barbados
  • Dr. Michael Hoyos, Retired Senior Lecturer

Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences :

  • Dr. Ulric Trotz, Project Manager, Caribbean Planning for Adaptation to Global Climate Change

Faculty of Social Sciences :

  • Mr. Harold Hoyte, Publisher and Editor in Chief, Nation Publishing Company
  • Mr. Ralph Williams, Chairman, Williams Industries Ltd
