Thursday, June 26, 2003 - Some 3,000 members of Drug Free Clubs around the island, will on Thursday June 26, join the Substance Abuse Council Secretariat (SACS), in marking International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

Activities to mark the day will be held under the theme “Let us talk About Drugs.” Director of the Secretariat, Clement Edwards, has stated that the Secretariat has a packed agenda of upcoming activities, commencing on Thursday June 26, and continuing until July.

“The various drug free clubs within the community will be doing some literature, poster and flyer distribution, and providing the communities with information, on various issues pertaining to drugs, its impact and its effects,” Edwards said.

A Mr. and Miss Drug Free Pageant scheduled for June 29, at the Ti Rocher Micoud Multi-purpose Centre beginning at three o’clock, is also on the calendar of activities.

In 1987, the UN General Assembly decided to observe June 26, as the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, as an expression of its determination to strengthen action and cooperation, to achieve the goal of an international society free of drug abuse.
